Province Medal Success!
The Ayrshire Province organise a number of competitions througout the season. The Province Medal is played with two rinks from each club, with the aggregate shot difference determining the winner. Normally played at Ayr, it was held this year at Greenacres, on excellent ice and a great atmosphere, on Saturday 6 January 2024.
Ayr and Alloway could only field one rink this year, as could The Gangrels, so we were allowed to enter a composite team, with one rink from each club.
The Gangrels rink, skipped by David Hope with Ronnie Peat, Bob Cherry and David Graham had a good win over Dalmelington, beng six shots up.
Ayr and Alloway were drawn against Sorn, always a stiff test! A well-played first end by A&A boosted their confidence and a close game ensued, being level as we played the last end. Sorn were just lying shot (possibly a measure required) but A&A skip Alan, played a lovely double raise to lie one. A great finish to an exciting game, givng The Gangrels / Ayr and Alloway team a total of seven up, enough to secure runner-up spot overall. Stewarton Heather were the clear winners.
The A&A rink was Alan Mitchell, Charlie Steele, Ken Ireland and John MacLeod
