Ayr and Alloway v The Gangrels
On Thursday 16 January two rinks from the Club were engaged in our annual inter-club friendly match with the Gangrels. Last year, from memory (although it was hoped that any memory had been erased!) the result was clearly and undeniably in favour of the Gangrels. This year however it was the ideal result for both clubs. After two closely fought games each club could point to a winning rink and overall the scores were tied with the winning margins 3 shots in each game. The Gangrel President got the better of David but Bella had the satisfaction of beating fellow A & A member Peter Reynolds.
For the record rink A was skipped by President David Gray (in his Ayr and Alloway capacity and not as a Gangrel) assisted by Peter Kennedy (another Gangrel!), Elma Stevenson and Sheila McDougall. Their opposition comprised Gangrel President Richard Morrison, Peter Galloway, Jimmy Begg and Ken Ross. The other game saw the rink of Bella Kennedy, Geoff Barber, Alan McKinlay and Bill Aiken take on Gangrel Vice President (and A & A member!) Peter Reynolds, Euan Lawrence, Ernest Mutter and Robert Charters.
This has been a fixture of many years standing (though how many no one is sure!) and is always most enjoyable. David thanked everyone for participating and took the liberty of asking Dr Jimmy Begg to recite the poem he had written several years ago about the Gangrels club. Richard Morrison echoed David's words of appreciation and everyone looks forward to a continuation of the match next year and beyond.
