On Wednesday 25 September almost 30 members and/or, hopefully, prospective members turned out for a pre-season coaching session most ably led by Olympian Scott Andrews and assisted by Alison Cunningham. President David had been keen to encourage the attendance of prospective new members and it was extremely heartening to have 6 such people attend. 3 had previous experience of curling at various levels and will be very welcome additions to our Club but the other 3 were completely new to the sport and hopefully the evening was sufficiently enjoyable that they will progress to lessons and also to joining our Club in due course.
Alison had set up a laser for members to use in practising their delivery and there were long queues to see how good – or bad – we all were! Initially Scott devoted much time to the less experienced curlers before giving everyone advice on sweeping techniques. Whether we can all follow Scott’s recommended style – and stay upright on the ice at the same time – remains to be seen! The presence of Scott and Alison however was greatly appreciated by all.
As a first venture for the Club the evening was very well supported and a most worthwhile exercise. Judging by the accompanying photographs the enjoyment of everyone is clear to see.
