Readers will no doubt recall that the Ayr and Alloway team, having received a bye in the first round of this competition, defeated a Sorn team in the second round to progress to the finals on Thursday 26 January.

In the semi-final, Jim Nelson (skip), Willie Scott, Ronnie Wilson and Maureen McVey lost 4 – 10 to a strong Galston team skipped by Andrew Boswell .

The score did not reflect a very close match which could have gone either way until the seventh end. The teams were peeling 4 all at the 5th end. Galston took 1 in the sixth.
In the seventh, A&A were sitting shot (touching the spot and covered) until Andrew, the Galston skip, played  2 perfect draws to the spot – both counting. Although holding last stone there was no way Jim could dislodge the Galston stones.

Chasing 3 shots in the last end proved too much and a further 3 shots were lost.

As Jim said, “Well done to all the team for a great effort on the day”.
